Alex was walking with his yellow Labrador, Lenny. He was looking for entertainment. But, also looking for someone who might understand him. His mind was a total mess. Looking around her sighed. He looked to see that Lenny was watching him. He sighed again. Lenny wagged his tail and barked. He looked to the ground and sniffed it. Alex moved into an easy jog. Lenny ran next to him now. They both enjoyed running.
Alex suddenly felt his mind open again. He was thinking about the last relationship he was in. He felt bad because his old girlfriend was dead now. He looked to Lenny again and felt horrible. The poor dog had been through everything with him. Together the two went through depression, sadness, illness and almost death. But, now they were still together with a stronger bond. Lenny panted and kept running next to Alex. But, suddenly Alex fell backwards. He looked up to see...

A good run always did the soul good. The exercise eased the tension and strengthened the heart, the deep breathing and perspiration cleansed the body of toxins, and the sheer joy some felt was good for the soul. What helped make a balanced run was picking the right music. If you were particularly stressed, hard rock or metal helped. If you were out simply for exercise, pop or jazz was best because most songs hold the same beat. Or, if you were like Charlie Lopez and were out for the sheer joy of it, you could listen to whatever you wanted. And she wanted some classic rock with a little bit of everything thrown in. She wanted drum solos, she wanted guitar solos, she wanted the occasional ballad, and most of all she wanted loud. So, Charlie had loaded up her MP3 player with all the KISS songs she had on her laptop (which was everything they ever made and then some) and headed out to the park.
She went at an easy pace, generally keeping in time with the music. Every footfall was a bass note or a drum beat, and had she been standing still her head would have been bobbing in the same rhythm. She loved running to her KISS collection, it was the best running music she had and it worked for every type of mood she was in when going for a run. Her easy pace allowed her enough breath to even sing along with her music selection. It was earning her several odd looks, but Charlie was having too much fun to notice.
She jogged along, music blasting in her ears, honey-colored pony-tail bouncing gently against her back, and a slow burn starting in her legs. It was almost time to call it quits before she gave out. Just then, one her favorite songs came on and Charlie found herself breaking into a rather bouncy, almost dancing pace as she sang right along with Paul Stanley to the opening of "I Was Made For Loving You"
The next thing she knew, Charlie collided with something solid, rapping her head pretty hard. Not hard enough to concuss, but definitely hard enough to cause some serious discomfort. 'Ooooh, that's what I get for running with my eyes closed,' she thought moodily before opening her eyes. Needless to say, she was a little shocked to see it had been another person she'd run into. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed, horrified. "I am so sorry! Are you okay?!"

Alex looked to her. It's alright. No harm done. I'm alright he said. Lenny sat down on his back legs. He watched them both. Alex got to his feet. He dusted himself off. He looked around to see if anyone saw that. He looked to her and sighed. Lenny barked slightly and wagged his tail. The yellow Labrador wasn't really happy but, he wanted to get back to running.
Alex bent down and patted his loveable dog. Lenny calmed down and sat there. Alex straightened up again. He looked to her. He held his hand out. My name is Alex Marshall, and the rascal sitting next to me is Lenny he said. Lenny barked and wagged his tail faster. He was now a happy dog.

Charlie was so embarrassed. This wasn't the first time she'd run with her eyes closed, but this was the first time she'd run into a person. Sure, she'd hit her fair share of inanimate objects like trees, benches, a garbage can or three, among other things. She felt like a such a klutz on a normal day, but practically barreling right over this guy made her feel shame like never before. Mixed with an odd sense of hilarity. The situation was kinda funny when you thought about it.
Charlie took one earbud out and let it hang down by her shoulder as the man got back to his feet. "I'm so sorry," she said again, now trying to fight back a smile. "I get too caught up in the music when I run, but without the music I don't have the motivation to actually go for a run." Her face stiffened when he sighed at her though. Okay, yea, the whole thing was embarrassing, but it wasn't the end of the world. What was his problem anyway?
She coolly shook his hand when he introduced himself. "Nice to meet you, Alex," she said before smiling down at the dog. "And you too, Lenny. I'm Charlie." Despite the fact that he gave his last name, Charlie refused to give hers. They'd just met and she knew nothing about him. She wasn't about to get herself into a bad situation.

Alex looked away. Nice to meet you Charlie he said. His mind was on something he rarely ever thought about anymore. It was on his past. Lenny barked and wagged his tail. The dog was happy to be around all people. But, for some reason Alex didn't have such a fun time around people when he was still suffering from his past life. Lenny stood up and ran to get a stick. But, only to chew on it.
Alex watched his dog run off to get a near by stick. Well, my dog can be a weird little thing. But, I have to love him he said. Lenny ran back with a big stick and laid down. He started to chew it. He wasn't supposed to chew on the sticks he found but chewed on it anyways. Alex bent down to try and pull the stick from his dog. Lenny growled and snapped his teeth at Alex telling him to back off.

Charlie was watching Lenny when Alex spoke again. It took her a second to figure out what he said, but then she realized he was simply echoing her "nice to meet you" phrase. Not really having anything to say in response to it, Charlie merely nodded at him with a tight smile. She wasn't big on being around people, men especially, that she didn't know.
She watched as Lenny found himself a stick and chewed on it. "Animals are the embodiment of God's sense of humor," she said, "At least, that's what my mother always used to say." Charlie winced slightly, sure that Alex was about to get bitten. "Why don't you just let him have it? All dogs chew on sticks," she said, arching an eyebrow at him. "Beats getting your hand bitten."

Alex sighed. He let go of the stick. "The last time this guy chewed a stick I had to take him straight to a vet. He doesn't just chew it he tried to swallow it" he said. Lenny growled and went back to chewing on the stick. He glanced up at Alex just to make sure he wouldn't try to take his stick again.

Charlie shrugged. It wasn't her place to tell him what to do. It was his dog after all. "Well, maybe he learned his lesson," she said, glancing around the park. "But, if you're not careful you'll wind up in the ER and I'll have to stitch some fingers back on."
Charlie sighed at the thought. She had to get to work later that day, which is why she was out for a run now as opposed to later in the evening when the air was cooler. She had needed a run, but didn't feel like heading out after her shift/
