It was quite early in the morning when Boone pulled up to the Ranch in his truck. He parked it outside and jumped out, circling around to the back of the truck. He opened up the end so his German Shepherd, Abby, could jump out. "Let's go," he spoke sharply to the dog, who was looking curiously off somewhere past the barn. He walked into the stables with Abby following and headed down the aisle to the stall he had put his horse Rani in. He disliked keeping the mare in the stall for very long and was thinking of having her turned out most of the time.
Boone finally reached the stall and peered inside. The young mare was standing at the back, looking around in her bedding for any hay that might have been dropped. Upon his arrival her head swung up, her inward tipped ears pricked forward. She stared intently at him for a moment without moving. Drawing his gaze away, Boone glanced down to her stall finding it needed to be mucked out. He picked up her halter, which hung outside her stall, and entered. He watched her carefully, looking for any signs of stress. He hasn't had her very long and wasn't sure if she got stressed out going to new places.
He murmured softly to the mare as he went to her side, raising his hand up to stroke her neck. With a snort she swung her head around and nuzzled his arm, sniffing at her halter. He slid the halter on and buckled it before leading her out of the stall and into the barn aisle. Rani walked out easily after him, eying Abby suspiciously as she passed. Boone tied her up outside, giving her another quick pat before disappearing momentarily to find a wheelbarrow and manure fork. Minutes later he returned and began mucking out her stall, going over the day in his mind on what he was going to do. He wasn't going to ride her that day; he wanted to give her another day to settle in. He decided to spend some time grooming her before either taking her for a walk so she could check things out or let her in one of the round pens.
After he emptied out the wheelbarrow and put it back, he returned to where Rani stood tensely in the barn aisle. He brought out his grooming kit and set it down nearby before picking up a plastic curry comb. He began to groom the mare, noticing more people were starting to arrive and tack up their horses for an early morning ride.

jumping down from the truck april ran her fingers through her dark hair, a sign she was out of her comfort zone. her eyes flickered about the yard, searching for any sign of life. petite hands were resting upon her hips, her balance slightly to the right as she put most her weight on her right leg. biting her lip she slowly looked about, peering into the darker stables. a few of the horses located inside nickered and snorted, not good. a loud bang sounded from her right, ah. her amber-like eyes flickered to the trailer she was standing to the left of, the trailer that held her paint stallion. he hated being in the trailer. and his mood was foul this morning anyway. cringing april turned on her heels and strode to the other door of the truck, flinging it open and reaching inside she grabbed a lead that was attached to her border collie, alfie. she'd decided not to bring her doberman bitch on a hack, she'd go crazy. letting the lead drop as alfie ran to sit by the tyre the brunette reached back inside the truck to bring out the stallion's black lead rope. sighing she slammed the door shut, only to cause more commotion in the trailer behind it. striding around the side to the large white beast she called a trailer april ran her fingers through her hair a few more times. she stood still, facing the back of the trailer where she was soon to lower down the ramp. no doubt her black and white paint would've snapped his old lead rope, meaning he'd probably try and fling himself free. there was no point going in the side door, 'cause she'd just get kicked to pieces. she'd only come here to ask if there were any thoroughbreds that were up for sale, but she thought it'd be nice to go for a hack before she talked business. she'd forgotten what a nightmare bruiser was after riding in a trailer. even more of a nightmare than he usually was.
bruiser was bad-tempered, to put it lightly. but he could be amazing and sometimes even calm down to a normal horse level, plus there was no way april was ever going to give him up. he'd been a present from her grandad, a few weeks before he'd past away. april had always been on about getting a paint horse, and her grandad had noticed her fondness for highly strung horses. but bruiser? he was a bit more than highly strung. suddenly his head poked over the top of the ramp and he snorted, he'd obviously realised he was being let out and wanted to know why it was taking so long. his head vanished and april heard him pawing at the ramp, the occasional 'scream' here and there. why on earth did she bring him? reaching for the bolts april sighed and pulled, no one else was around and he couldn't escape anywhere, so if he bolted she'd be able to catch him easily. the ramp came flying down, bruiser following. his large frame thundered down the fragile metal, his hooves clattering as the hit the wood he'd destroyed. he was slower than usual, so april tried to approached him, his old lead rope still dangling from his chin. reaching out she tried to grab it, but ended up grabbing thin air. falling flat on her face she cursed, the sound of hooves thundering away from her. lifting her head up she saw a black and white figure canter towards the barn she'd seen earlier. cursing she lifted herself to her feet and ran after her stallion, shouting at him as she did so "bruiser, bruiser get back here you...."
the clatter of the stallions hooves melted into silence, though the reason why he stopped wasn't clear. sprinting to the entrance of the stables april heard him pawing the ground lightly, oh dear. she froze momentarily as she saw where he was. there was another horse tied outside a stable, someone grooming it at the same time. bruiser was a few feet away from the pair, and by the way he was standing april doubted this was another stallion or a gelding. cursing under her breath she took a slow step forward, then another, then another. if she made one sudden move bruiser would go mental. halting a few feet away from the darkened figure of the horse she clicked her tongue softly, watching as his ears flicked back to the sound. the paint tossed his head slightly, a few snorts coming from his nostrils. april had his attention. a low whistle caused him to turn his head towards her, his attention now fully on his owner. she clicked her tongue again, this time for a little longer. bruiser snorted and turned slowly towards her, tossing his head as he did so. the stallions ears were now flat on his skull as he walked slowly towards the girl, his head held high. he stopped just before her, eying her angrily. reaching out slowly she grabbed his head collar, clipping on the new, stronger lead rope. panic over.
ooc; hope you don't mind me cutting in (:
